Acrobats and Poets

Today we read a poem called "Constantly Risking Absurdity". We will be working on different activities based on this poem all week. The poem is about the risk that comes with writing poetry. You are constantly being judged and watched by your readers and by yourself. If the product does not come up to par with your own standards or doesn't meet the standers readers were looking for it could mean "death". Death in this sense seems to be referring to the end of the poets career, or the death of his pride or will. We also spoke about the difference between similes and metaphors, but I have learned that every year since 3rd grade. The poem seems pretty straight forward so I think analyzing it will be a breeze . <----(Metaphor)

2. Write a few pages in which you obsess over something meaningless

I find myself captivated by the constant ticking of the clock in my history class, especially during those long, monotone lectures. As the second hand glides gracefully around the face, it's almost like a metaphor for the never-ending course of time. The sound is oddly comforting though, a constant reminder that even in the most boring classes, time keeps moving forward. I often catch myself drifting into daydreams as I sync my thoughts with each tick, each second a tiny step towards the sweet release of the bell.

Day before break

Today we looked at identifying claims in two passages. Mr Rease has a cold or something so we didn't have much work to do. I understand how to identify claims now and how to write argumentative. I will keep getting better at writing them but I think I am ready for the benchmark test. The rest of class I spent doing work for other classes and writing this blog.

claims/vocab

Today we finished up our assignment on finding claims. This was so easy because it was literally just copy and paste from the passage. There were also vocab words, but they weren't words that were super confusing. For the most part they were words that I already use occasionally. It is Tuesday so only 3 days until break!!!

Claims and evidence

Today we looked at two passages and determined the claims. This set us up for tomorrow when we will be writing the claims down. I think the purpose of today was to work on analyzing argumentative texts. I hope this week goes by fast because I am really excited for the break coming up.
