Langston hughs

Today we read a poem about a mother giving her son advice. She told him how tough her life was using stairs as an analogy. She also described how she kept climbing and that he needed to too. The theme was to never give up and never go back. We answered questions about this alone and then class ended, I took a math assessment today and I think I did good.

My Ethnicity

Today we were asked to provide our ethnicity on an assignment. I had to text my parents to ensure where our history goes back to. My older brother recently started a project to find out more about our roots. He found out that we originally had family in Nigeria on my dad's side and Britain on my mom's. We then read a poem called "The Negro Speaks of Rivers" by Langston Hughes. This poem was easy to analyze for the most part but was also powerful. I enjoyed the conversations we had around this topic in class. For the rest of school, I will be focusing on Math and Physics because I am behind It wont let me flip the image, sorry!!!

Gatsby mini project

Today we opened the class by finding out about one African American woman named Condoleezza Rice. She was the first and only African American woman to be Secretary of State. We were then asked a question in which I would respond that Racism would never fully be gone in our world. I personally think that everyone in this world will hold some type of racial bias as long as different races exist. We then presented our mini-projects to the class, I had to present mine too which was pretty easy. Most people didn't submit their projects though.

 I was Absent

Friday 2/2

Today in class we learned about the project that we were assigned for next week. This project doesn't seem hard, so the difficult part will probably be convincing myself to get it done. I was at school all week, which is a huge improvement. The rest of today was pretty easy going, mainly because it is a Friday.

Today we presented our projects which were supposed to be easy, but many groups were pretty unprepared. I think this was due to many groups having one or two people doing most of the work. As I said in yesterday's blog I learned a little about Daisy through the information my group had told me, which provided me with enough to write about her. As we presented I found that they had taken information from later parts of the book. This spoiled some parts of the book to the people who were actually listening. The rest of today was still stressful but mentally I am feeling better.

Monday 1/29

Today we worked on creating a poster about Daisy Buchanan from "The Great Gatsby". In the group I was working with, we all had our specific roles. I was meant to write about Daisy using the rubric we were given. This was practically impossible due to my little knowledge of Daisy, due to my struggles the week before. I learned a little about Daisy through the information my group had told me. The day was not easy because of the stress that comes from missing a week of school.

Honestly, I don't remember much about this day, but we did an assignment. This was one of the hardest weeks of my life, so school wasn't really on my mind.

Mr Rease was absent

Today we worked on the review questions for chapter 6 of The Great Gatsby. I found out Gatsby's true identity; honestly, it didn't surprise me much. The book is picking up the pace a little and I am interested to see where it goes from here. I was a little late to school today and I missed all of last week, so I am hoping to get caught up with everything as soon as possible.
